Some are happy with their work in hand.
Some claim they are more focused.
Some are drowned in work.
Some do not know what they are doing.
And there are some who just don't give a shit.
Hmm... some are drowned in work. Sad. Especially for the first years. Dunno if they had bit off more than they could chew. Some of them are great people. But the danger of burning out is there. Can we save them in time? Or are we going to lose them from asking too much from them... too soon?
Sometimes we just need to stop and drop whatever we are doing and think. Ponder. Wonder. Decide. Decide what we really want. What is really important to us. What are the rocks in our life? [refer to previous post "A Jug Story"]
KentRidgeans watch out. Especially true blue ones. Yes. This is coming from your ex-President.
What is hall life? I think my batch of FYF had gone through the 'sibei garang' era to the present day 'ok lor' era. Yes. Our senoirs were the most loyal hall residents you had ever seen. Sometimes we really wonder whether they are more Singaporeans/Malaysians/what have you than they are kentridgeans. They are so proud to be part of the blue that i really believed them when they said they had blue blood in them.
Well.. we are in the period of change. Change is inevitable. It's how we adapt to them that makes the difference from the kings to the slaves. Separates the winners from the losers. And the survivors from the outcasts.
Well.. what is hall to us? At least to me... it's nothing. Really. NOTHING. You heard me right. It is just a common identity for all of us. So that we have a common goal. A common ground. Must it really really really important for it to be called KENT RIDGE? No. It's the people that makes the hall. Not the name. Less not the hall office. (tsk!)
Hall to me is like (sorry vince) sand to me. The people in there, pebbles... of cos with some rocks.
To the lost souls who are drowned in work. I suggest you dump everything, take a step back and decide what you want. How to tell whether you are lost? Ask yourself whether you have time for yourself? whether you have time to do whatever you want?
No, Ben. It's not telling you to quit hall. But we must stay focused. What are we doing all these for? I did it for my friends. I did it for you young little things whom some I can comfortably call brothers and sisters. My seniors gave me the chance to grow and the opportunity to be part of this community. I made great friends along the way and most importantly I enjoyed myself. I know there is no more such chance for me to relive the moments all over. That's it. I have walked the walk (with the FYFs) and many of you had a part in these wonderful memories.
Now's your turn.
BUT keep your focus. Know what you are doing all these for or whom you are doing all these for.
I really don't care much about the hall. It's the people in it whom are important to me. People whom I call friends, brothers and sisters.
Keep your focus. If it's not worth it, heck it.
Do we really know what we want?
What we are fighting for?
Our purpose in life?
